Charming with great staff - talk to them for local insight.

The Edison is one of those lovely boutique hotels that manages to balance a bit of luxe with a bit of charm. One of those hidden gems that you keep to yourself and maybe share the good news with your nearest & dearest because it's just so good!

The old colonial building has been charmingly restored. Rooms are incredibly spacious and well thought out. In-room amenities are top-notch but my favourite are the small touches - a cotton tote for your city walkabout (Penang is famously plastic-bag free) and a large jug of water by your bedside in the evening with a little local delicacy as a treat. Very practical but done beautifully.

They've a 24-hr lounge that also serves as the breakfast area serving light continental fare (rightly so since you're in a foodie haven). Throughout the day, the bar has an array of treats - fresh fruits, local snacks and the usual coffee, tea and juices. All complimentary. In the evening, there's wine! The perfect place to have a pre-dinner drink before heading out.

Location can't be beat. You're right across from the famous Cheong Fatt Sze Mansion aka "The Blue Mansion" and round the corner from the famous E&O hotel. And you won't be short of things to do and see around you either - everything's a decent walking decent away, if you can stand the heat & humidity. PS: The Edison has a few of those great old-fashioned black bicycles that you can use too!

And special shoutout goes out to all the staff who made the stay so wonderful - warm, polite and gracious, great example of true Malaysian hospitality.

I can't recommend this property more. Definitely looking to come back should I ever be in Penang again.

Wow! New favorite hotel

This hotel is absolutely magnificent! The building is beautifully restored, the interior is wonderful, including the rooms. Really comfy beds.

The staff were amazing! Friendly and so helpful with everything.

Looooooved the 24 hour snack bar (free) complete with cold drinks. And cake hour and wine hour on the house!

Breakfast had a small selection of bread and local dishes and eggs made to order. I quite liked the simpleness of it - both that they don't seem to throw away too much leftover food - and that you don't over eat so you can enjoy more of Penang's great food.

In addition to several nice common areas inside, the outside is also gorgeous and with a small swimming pool.

I can't wait to return to this hotel - a new favorite!

What a surprise and delight

We travel quite a lot and have stayed in many hotels around the world and I must say we were very impressed with this hotel. A beautiful boutique heritage listed hotel that has been well renovated making the best use of light and those high ceilings. The well appointed rooms with wonderful crisp bed linen and fabulous products (shampoos, moisturisers etc). Lovely bathroom from the tiles, towels, bathrobes and slippers.

The staff was wonderful, from reception to wait staff, cooks everyone was very attentive, friendly and polite, nothing was too much trouble. Good coffee and tea available 24/7 as a self serve for guests, and lovely drinks in the afternoon before setting off for dinner in nearby central Georgetown, so the location of the hotel is ideal. Breakfast this morning was more than adequate for us with a lovely cheese omelette, croissants, toast, juice etc. and great coffee/tea, all served by the wonderful staff.

Parting gift was a lovely canvas bag with the Edison logo, a great memento - thanks. All in all we honestly could not fault anything in this hotel. The karaoke across the road went on till midnight, ask for maybe a back room and use the ear plugs supplied if you are especially sensitive, but honestly it didn't bother us too much.

Thanks for a very positive experience.

Heritage and culture meet luxury...

My family and I stayed at The Edison for 3 nights and were absolutely wowed by splendor of the building and its thoughtfully restored interior. It is evident that care, attention and effort have been put into preserving the heritage of the building, yet ensuring that its guests experience ultimate luxury. On this note, The Edison distinguishes itself from the other restored properties by sensitively injecting a contemporary feel to its interior to provide maximum comfort for its guests.

The Edison is conveniently located in George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage, and walking distance to many heritage sites and great food spots. It offers a home after from home. Everyone's exceptionally friendly and helpful.

A big shout-out to Ivan Khoo, Charles Ayerru and team for making us feel at home at all times, and to Mr Eddie Tan for offering us special tips on places to visit and have meals!

No faults at all

Hotel is beautifully restored, everything about the style of the hotel is amazing. The staff are extremely friendly, happy, helpful and give a real personalised service to each guest. Unexpected free breakfast, afternoon tea, stocked fridge, snacks and even an wine tasting hour every day - FREE. Massive rooms (biggest rooms I have stayed at in a hotel), all the comforts you need, everything is clean, neat and tidy. The staff are the reason I would come back and stay at this hotel again, they are simply amazing!

Making Our Home in a Mansion

We stayed in The Edison because the building really caught our eye during a previous visit to Penang. The mansion was beautifully restored and also beautifully lit at night. The interior was elegant and simple. We found the room to be cozy and comfortable. We especially enjoyed the lounge which can be accessed 24-hour, stocked with fruits, nibbles, coffee, tea and juices. We spent much time at the lounge and its breezy alfresco area. They provide local delicacies during tea time and pre-dinner wine. It was these experiences which makes our stay special, as well as their very friendly and helpful staff. We truly feel at home at the Edison.

Wonderful!

Located in the heart of Georgetown, the unesco heritage city. This is an old colonial bungalow that has been lovingly and beautifully restored while still retaining its old world charm. As you step into the hotel, you are immediately transported half a century ago, such is the old world charm of the place. The staff were all so friendly and eager to help.
We were given room 125 upstairs. Lovely room but you will need to climb a flight of stairs. No problem for us but if you have issues with that, do request a room on the ground floor.
This hotel offers its guests the use of their lounge with complimentary soft drinks and coffee . They did not even mind when i brought my visitors to have a coffee and chat there. At tea time, they have arranged for the most delicious local penang "kueh" to be offered, and during happy hours , 6-7 pm, complimentary wine. Talk about making guests feel welcome.
Location wise, this is so very convenient, to explore all the quaint heritage streets of Penang. All the famous Penang street food such as Laksa, char keow teow and fried oyster are nearby. The hotel even has bicycles on loan!
The only little problem is that there is a rather noisy karaoke going on opposite till midnight . So if you are used to going to bed early, the hotel has very considerately provided ear plugs, or else request a room towards the back of the hotel. For us, it was not a problem because we go to bed late.
Overall, a great experience not to be missed.
